Follow the steps to make your own wreath of paper flowers.
The first step is to cut out the base. I usually just draw around circular household objects to create the base shape but you can use a compass if you want to be more precise. I’ve used foam board but sturdy cardboard would also be suitable.
The next step is to make the flowers. To make these roses you will need the rose video tutorial – the link is in the main body of this post – and a flower stamp in order to cut out the basic rose shapes.
Use your base shape to work out how many rose flowers you will need remembering to leave a little gap between them so that you have space to insert your origami flowers and concertina leaves during the construction of the wreath.
If you intend to give your floral wreath as a gift then make sure you stick the gift tag on before the flowers to keep it secure and avoid it getting in the way of the flowers and leaves.
It’s easy to make concertina leaves by cutting out triangles of varying sizes and folding each one with alternating mountain and valley folds. Once you’ve folded the triangle secure the base with tape and use your fingers to carefully fan out the folds into a leaf shape.
You can start to build your floral wreath using a hot glue gun to secure your flowers and concertina leaves into place as you work your way around the circular base. I also make origami flowers to stick in at this stage, there’s a link to a tutorial in the main body of the post. I normally add a coloured stamen to the centre of the origami flowers using a glue gun – the stamen can be made by by tightly winding a strip of coloured paper around itself and using tape to secure it at the base before you glue it into the main part of the flower.
I’ve just completed a sweet little spring project and thought I’d share with you how to make a floral wreath out of paper.
To make a floral wreath you will need:
Coloured paper in various colours for your flowers and leaves – the paper shouldn’t be too thick (between 100 – 200 gsm is best) otherwise you’ll struggle to make the folds and there will be noticeable creases in places that you don’t want them!
Square origami paper for the origami flowers – the size is up to you.
A hot glue gun and glue sticks.
Foam board or thick card for the base – the size is up to you.
Something circular to draw around or a compass.
A craft knife or scalpel.
A small paintbrush or something similarly round and thin that you can use to curl the flower petals.
